AFKO - The Association des francophones des Kootenays Ouest has a little free library with French books. You can donate up to date and in good condition French books or take some. Lots of kids books.
CBAL: You can donate or borrow books from Books Everywhere bin. It is a community book-sharing initiative featuring small, free lending crates in local spots like the Museum lobby, West Arm Laundry, Cowans, Oso Negro, Kootenay Kids, and Aquatic Centre. These locations offer curated, clean, and intact used books, managed partly through the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL).
Kokanee Creek Park: You can donate or borrow books from the box at the park host at site number 69.

Walmart: When you buy a car battery at Walmart, they can recycle your old one. Only if you buy one there.
Positiv Apparel accept them in any condition as long as they as clean and dry.
I.O.D.E accept donations of women's & men's clothing, shoes and fabric. All must be in good condition and clean. Donations can be dropped off Tuesday - Saturday 11am - 3pm. All profits are returned to the community as scholarships, team funding, KERPA, hospital and more.
Kootenay Kids has free clothes for children divided by age. Ask them before giving any donation as the bins are mostly full.
The Woman Centre The basement is a free clothing store downstairs. You can find woman and kids clothes and accessories. They take donation of woman and kids clothes. Please ask before if they can accept your donation as the place is limited.
Snowpack Outdoor: They have a box in the basement to collect your old Patagonia clothes.
John Murley can take unwanted, or broken laptops and computers, for repair, recycle and resale as a hobby. 250-551-2727

The Woman Centre They give food (tofu, seasonal fruit and vegetables). In the entrance, there is a freezer you can take from.
Nelson Community Food Centre : If you are thinking of donating food, like garden produce, please call them at 250-354-1633 to ensure they can put your generosity to good use.

Residents can generally drop off up to 4 passenger tires at local retailers.
Kootenay Co-op Grocery Donate your clean old plastic or tote bags or reuse one from the bin. The bags are located next to the cardboard boxes.
They don't recycle them. They will dispose of them safely to prevent toxic pharmaceutical chemicals and residues from leaching into local landfills or polluting the water supply through toilets and sinks.
